Brick wall in Glen Waverley at risk of collapse may have posed threat to pedestrians for two weeks

A 1.8M-HIGH brick wall in Glen Waverley is on the brink of collapse, endangering passers-by.

The wall in Coleman Pde is believed to have been hit by a truck two weeks ago.

It comes almost a year after three people died when a brick wall collapsed on Swanston St in Carlton.

Monash Council staff and Glen Waverley police rushed to inspect the wall yesterday afternoon after Leader photographer Steve Tanner noticed the damage this afternoon.

The wall is adjacent to the Digital Direct Communications shopfront at 165a Coleman Pde.

On the other side of a narrow laneway is First National Real Estate Glen Waverley.

First National Real Estate Glen Waverley manager Thomas Som said he was concerned for the safety of passers-by.

He said he believed a truck had caused the damage about two weeks ago.

“Big trucks are always going in an out of the laneway, dropping off supplies to restaurants on Kingsway and Coleman Pde,” Mr Som said.

The manager at Digital Direct Communications, who declined to provide a name, said he had not noticed the damaged wall until this afternoon.

Waverley Leader is waiting for a response from Monash Council.
