Take your time when choosing a real estate agent
No matter whether you're buying or selling property, having the expertise of a real estate agent on your side can prove invaluable.
Not only should they have a sound understanding of your local market, but also have the skills to make sure your sale or purchase is completely smoothly and on time.
However, not all real estate agents are created equal, which is why you'll need to do your research to make sure you're choosing the best in the business. Here are some considerations for you to make.
Personal recommendation
There's often no substitute for a good personal recommendation and this is certainly the case when selecting a real estate agent.
If you've got friends and family who've had a good experience then make sure you get hold of the contact details. Failing that, head online and look for unbiased reviews.
Don't discredit the smaller players
Although it can be tempting to go along with one of the country's biggest estate agents, this doesn't mean they will necessarily be the best.
There are plus and minus points to choosing larger companies. You might get a greater slice of the market, but the customer service could be lacking as a result of their size.
Smaller, boutique real estate agents are worth a look as well, so make sure you scan the whole market.
First impressions count
It's often said that you have just a matter of seconds to make a good impression - and you should use this principle when choosing a real estate agent.
If you don't get a good vibe from them then the chances are you're not going to work well together. Buying and selling property is a big step, so you'll need to be confident you will have a strong working relationship with your agent.
