The next festival in planning stage

Date: 18 March 2011

The Bribie Arts Festival Banksias to Beach which is held every two years is already being planned for 2012.

Bribie Island Community Arts Centre president Liz Heber said fresh from their exciting award win at the Australia Day awards for the Moreton Bay Regional Council, several meetings have been held to gauge business and community support and involvement.

“It is exciting to see all the groups that took part in the last event ready and willing to offer their support for the 2012 event,” she said.

“The event was considered the outstanding nominee because of the tireless efforts of the arts advisory and festival committees and the volunteers who also worked hard.” The event in 2010 attracted 6000 people over the 10-day period and 3000 joined in the open day activities.

There were 30 workshops with visiting and local tutors and about 400 students from all over Australia and regional Queensland took part.

There will be events associated with the festival in 2012 and these include the Bribie Woodcrafters, the Seaside Museum, the Gem Club, Bribie Gleeman, First National Real Estate, The Ferryman and Crafty Shed.

More groups and organisations were expected to come to meetings with ideas and suggestions for the event as weeks progress.

Bribie Weekly and Caboolture News have come on board to be the media sponsors for this event.
